CHARTER FOR THE BA.JOBS.* GROUPS BA.JOBS.* is for the posting of job announcements, resumes and general discussion of the job market in and around the San Francisco Bay Area. This document is a periodic posting to the BA.JOBS.* newsgroups and is also at http://www.wco.com/~oriole/ba-jobs-charter.html or via anonymous FTP from ftp://ftp.wco.com/users/oriole/ba.jobs.charter For the purposes of the BA.JOBS.* newsgroups, the San Francisco Bay area will include an area within a reasonable commuting distance from areas usually assumed to be Bay Area communities. This includes a large portion of Northern California from below Gilroy to above Santa Rosa and East to near Sacramento including such communities as Modesto, Stockton, Manteca, etc. that may be within a conceivable commuting radius of San Francisco Bay. Please see the FAQ for more detail. These newsgroups are retro-moderated. Retro-moderation means postings not meeting the guidelines in this charter are subject to automatic cancellation by individuals approved by the BA.JOBS.* advisory board. Posters of articles may be notified via email of cancellation of their articles. Repeated violation of this charter may result in all BA.JOBS.* postings from the violator being canceled on sight for "30" days. Continued abuse of the newsgroup after this "time out" may result in permanent cancellation of all postings to the groups. POSTING GUIDELINES Posters in the BA.JOBS.* newsgroups should adhere to these guidelines: No job or resume posting may be made more frequently than once in a fourteen (14) day period. o Re-posting of duplicate or nearly duplicate articles can result in article cancellation. o All postings must be for actual positions. o Job postings for the sole purpose of resume collection are prohibited. o Resumes may be collected from the resumes group. All job postings must be for positions in the "San Francisco Bay Area," which is generally described above and is more fully defined in the BA.JOBS.* FAQ. o Please use the misc.jobs and us.jobs groups for national or international employee recruitment. o Resumes must be posted by individuals in the Bay Area or searching in the Bay Area for employment. o Do not post a listing in more than one BA.JOBS.* newsgroup. The organization posting the job offer should be identified. o The name of the company, agency or recruiter making the offer MUST appear in the header of the posting. It is suggested that you use the "Organization:" header for this information. Crossposting to other groups is permissible, but: o Please be aware that if a posting does not meet the BA.JOBS guidelines, the article may be canceled. An article that is crossposted to several groups is canceled in all of the groups it appears in when it is canceled in any one of them. o In cooperation with other regional newsgroups, crossposts to regional newsgroups outside the bay area is prohibited. (e.g. posts to ca.* or scruz.* are permitted but posts to la.* or seattle.* are prohibited) o Listings must be posted to a single BA.JOBS.* newsgroup ONLY. Crosspostings to multiple BA.JOBS.* newsgroups can result in article cancellation. Reposting an article to another BA.JOBS.* newsgroup may also result in article cancellation as a duplicate post. Use of the "Followup-To:" header is required. o All postings should contain either Followup-To: ba.jobs.discussion or Followup-To: poster to avoid inappropriate traffic in the groups. o Followup-To: another discussion group on the Usenet is permissible but attention will be paid to attempts to initiate flame wars via massive crossposting of controversial material. Location of the position must be provided. o The geographical location or locations of the job site must be stated in either the "Subject:" header or at the top of the article. The top is defined as within the first 10 lines. o Please be as specific as possible. o Note that this requirement makes BA.JOBS.* postings violate the charters of other regional newsgroups. Posting in BA.JOBS.* newsgroups crossposting to other regional groups is mutually exclusive and will violate the charter of at least one of the groups and is prohibited. Resumes should be in plain ASCII text with no more than 72 characters per line. Resumes posted in HTML, PostScript, Acrobat, TeX, nroff, troff, or other formatting language are subject to cancellation.
